Educate: Raising Awareness to Prevent Wrongful Convictions

At the Truth & Justice Project, we believe that education is a powerful tool in the fight against wrongful convictions. By informing the public, legal professionals, and policymakers about the causes and consequences of these miscarriages of justice, we aim to foster a more informed and proactive community dedicated to preventing future errors in our legal system.

Our Educational Initiatives

  • Public Awareness Campaigns: We engage in outreach efforts to shed light on systemic issues that lead to wrongful convictions, such as eyewitness misidentification, false confessions, and prosecutorial misconduct.
  • Professional Training: Collaborating with law schools and bar associations, we provide training sessions for law students and legal professionals on topics like unreliable forensic evidence and the pitfalls of misidentification.
  • Community Engagement: Through seminars, workshops, and speaking engagements, we connect with community groups to discuss the impact of wrongful convictions and the importance of safeguarding justice.

Spotlight on Advocacy

Our Director of Outreach, Anna Vasquez, herself an exoneree, tirelessly shares her personal journey to illuminate the real-world implications of wrongful convictions. Anna also leads efforts to assist exonerees in their transition to freedom, working with social service agencies throughout the state to help clients access housing, employment assistance, and mental health services.
